A 29 year-old popular and former Miss Venezuela Monica Spear killed during the robbery.
She and her ex-husband are worked in a travel industry and they went to the mountain of western for spent New Year’s celebration with her 5 year-old daughter. When they return by car then face the robbers.
According to the Police, “Robbers shot and killed the two and wounded their daughter on an isolated stretch of highway when they tried to foil the assault the locking themselves inside their car, which had been disable by tire puncher,”
TV personality Camila Canabal expressed what many were feeling in a tweet: “Sadness, anger, indignation, impotence, shame and pain, pain, pain, dammit!!!”
According to the authorities, “Their daughter, Maya, was in stable condition after treatment for a leg wound and was with relatives in Caracas,”
They were killed at about pm between Puerto Cabello, the country’s main port, and the provincial capital; of Valencia, while on a badly maintained stretch of highway that is lightly traveled at that hour.
According to the Jose Gregorio Sierralta (director of the investigation police), their four-door sedan hit “a sharp object that had been placed on the highway” which punctured at least two of its tires.
Sierralta also said that, two tow trucks arrived almost immediately afterward and the truck occurred after the car had been lifted onto one of the trucks.
He also said that, police arrested five suspects, some under the age of 18.
