Tokyo: more than 36 people were killed in landslide that struck Hiroshima (city in Japan).


According to the rescue workers, several houses were totally damaged or destroyed in landslide. The landslides happened in a residential area near a mountain in the Hiroshima city outskirts.


The Fire and Disaster Management Agency said that, 36 people were confirmed dead and at least seven others were missing and 15 people were injured, two seriously.


According to the land ministry, Damage from land and mudslides has increased over the past few decades due to more frequent heavy rains, despite extensive work on stabilizing slopes. In the past decade there have been nearly 1,200 landslides a year.
