A ferry with nearly 200 passengers aboard drowned on Monday in the river Padma, almost 30km southwest of Dhaka, international media reported.
Forty-four passengers have been saved from the vessel, recognized as the Pinak-6, said Mohammad Saiful Hasan Badal, the Deputy Commissioner of the Munshiganj district.
There were no instant reports about casualties. The Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority’s teams and the army were busy in the rescue operation.
