The world is commemorating the first Nelson Mandela International Day, a day of service occurring simultaneously with the late-South African president’s July 18th birthday.

This is the first time the day has been commemorated since the Nobel Peace Prize recipient died on December 5 at the age of 95.

For the past five years, millions have volunteered 67 minutes of their time to mark Mandela’s 67 years of activism in South Africa. About 126 countries are anticipated to take part this year.
