Anti-Israeli demonstrators at a rally for the Palestinian victims of the Gaza assault were fired upon with tear gas by Turkish riot police in Istanbul on Friday, international news reports.

The crowd had assembled at the Israeli consulate in the Turkish capital with stones in protest at the ground offensive, who has now argued upwards of two dozen Palestinian lives.

The demonstrators waved Turkish and Palestinian flags, chanting slogans. They began to damage windows with sticks and rocks, before the police decided to interfere.
