According to international sources, Cuban dealers sold 50 cars and four motorcycles nationwide in the first six months of the year under a new law that removed limits on auto purchases.

The legislation took effect in January, for the first time in half a century. However, family sedans were priced similarly to European sports cars.

Total sales at the country’s 11 national dealerships reached just $1.28 million in the first six months of the year.

Cuba had planned to invest 75 percent of the proceeds from new car sales in its crumbling public transportation system.
