The Interior Ministry said that two Egyptian police officers were killed in a small blast close to the presidential palace in Cairo’s Heliopolis district on Monday.
Some others were injured at a street intersection close to the presidential palace. Security forces were deactivating one makeshift bomb when a second device exploded.
The explosions came days after the terrorists group Ajnad Misr, or Soldiers of Egypt, said it had placed a series of bombs in the same area to target security forces.
It terminated the mission cause of concerns that civilians would be harm but was unable to remove the bombs and released a statement requesting caution.
