The ‘We’re the Millers’ actress Emma Roberts, who will be joining James Franco in the drama “Michael,” about an anti-gay pastor who was once gay himself.
Emma decided to team up again with her “Palo Alto” co-star as his girlfriend. Chris Zylka (“The Leftovers”) is also joined to the film as another past love interest.
The versatile actor also teaming up Zachary Quinto with them and plays the former boyfriend of Franco’s role.
The ‘Michael’ script is based on ‘My Ex-Gay Friend,’ a New York Times Magazine article by Benoit Denizet-Lewis (written by ‘Travels with Casey’) about Michael Glatze, a Christian minister from Wyoming who was so established in gay culture before he refused his homosexuality, he discovered a gay youth magazine.
Justin Kelly going to direct this drama and Gus van Sant will be executive producer with producers Franco, Vince Jolivette, Michael Mendelsohn, Ron Singer and Scott Reed.
Justin said, “This isn’t just a story about an ‘ex-gay. It’s actually a very relatable story about the power of belief and the desire to belong.”
