France’s defense ministry said that, France is wrapping up its military operation in Mali (Country), which freed the north of the African state from the grip of Islamists.

The mission will be reorganized into a 3,000-strong regional force against terrorists based in Mali, Chad, and Niger.

France intervened 1.5 years ago after Al-Qaeda-linked extremists seized a swath of the former French colony. Operation was repeatedly extended to help Mali’s government regain control.

According to news, the operation may end as early as this week, when French President Francois Hollande visits Africa.
