Ship With Syria Chemical Weapons Calls At Italy Port

A Danish ship carrying hundreds of tons of Syrian chemical weapons has called at the southern Italian port of Gioia Tauro.

The Ark Futura pulled into port as the sun rose Wednesday and anchored close to the MV Cape Ray, a US cargo vessel that will devastate the toxic material.

The Danish ship was escorted by an Italian coast guard vessel and other ships, with a helicopter buzzing overhead.

The chemicals will be loaded on to the Cape Ray later Wednesday to be neutralized at sea. The Ark Futura last month picked up the last batch of Syrian chemical weapons.
