Barack Obama, President of the United States, said Monday that the U.S. criticism against the agreement reached last weekend in Geneva on Iran’s nuclear, especially coming from the Republican camp, put a side the national security in favor of targeted politicians.

Several members of Congress, including ‘hawks’ Democrats have stated their skepticism after the agreement, after which no further sanction shall be taken for six months against Iran, and relayed some critics of Israel, who spoke of a “historic mistake.”

“The challenges are immense, but we cannot close the door to diplomacy, and we cannot exclude peaceful solutions to global problems,” said Barack Obama during a visit to San Francisco. “We cannot engage in an endless cycle of conflict.”

“Make the drive and cause, it may be easier politically, but this is not the way to act for our security,” he added.

Immediately after the announcement of the agreement, which requires, among other stop Iran from enriching uranium above 5%, Barack Obama praised an “important first step”, but warned that the United States “increase pressure” if Tehran did not meet its commitments.

Harry Reid, the leader of the Democratic majority in the Senate, he said Monday that parliamentarians would study next month any sanctions, but suggested that the upper chamber would take care to adopt over the next six months to honor the agreement.
