The Canada will maintain its sanctions against Iran pending a final agreement and despite the Interim Agreement on the nuclear program concluded at Geneva , said, Sunday, November 24, the Minister of Foreign Affairs , John Baird.

“The imposition of effective sanctions” led the Iranian regime to “take a more moderate position and open the door to negotiations” for the interim agreement, said John Baird. The minister warned that an agreement cannot be “violated or compromised by deception”.

Until the group of six major powers Germany , China , United States, France, Great Britain and Russia and Iran signed a definitive agreement, “Canada will maintain its full force severe sanctions”, assured John Baird.

As part of the agreement, it is expected that the sanctions be relaxed in certain sectors by the United States and the European Union , but all U.S. trade and financial sanctions, as sanctions imposed by the Security Council of UN, remain in effect.
