The European Court of Human Rights has confirmed France’s law banning the niqab (veil), the full Islamic face veil – refusing a complaint brought by a 24 year old lady who said that the ban in public was prejudiced “based on gender, religion and ethnic origin, to the detriment of women who wear the full-face veil.”
The law was came into force in France in 2010. The court said there was no violation of Article 8 of France’s Constitution.
which defends the right to respect for privacy and family, and Article 9, which protects freedom of thought and religious worship.
