The police fired tear gas and rubber bullets late Sunday to prevent a group of hooligans who created great disturbance in a peaceful rally celebrating Argentina’s courageous performance in a 1-0, faced defeat by Germany in the World Cup finals.
The families could be spotted running away in fear after police, who initially stayed on the sidelines as jubilant fans poured into downtown Buenos Aires, started running after down the hooligans on motorcycles.
The youths, most of them with covered faces and drunk so much, reacted by throwing rocks, devastating store fronts and even breaking into a theatre.
The Police told that almost 15 officers were wounded and almost 40 people were detained. The disorderly condition marred what was an otherwise impulsive show of support for Argentina’s national team after its best World Cup run in 24 years.
In spite of the late Sunday fights, the majority of Argentineans’ have agreed to the loss with dignity. Previous in the evening, thousands of fans turned back to the Obelisk monument, waving the national flag decided to party in celebrate reaching the World Cup final.
The university student Marcelo Dailoff, “I feel proud to be Argentine. To wear this shirt on the day of a final is priceless. “The players brought joy to Argentina after so long. Quite simply, thank you.”
The 32-year-old Lorena Hak, who informed news reporters. “The players put everything into the game, their hearts and souls. They lost the best way possible, not like Brazil who were smashed to smithereens.”
