Five suspected militants of Al Qaeda were killed in drone attacks in southern Yemen , reported Friday the Ministry of Interior, at a time when ultra conservative Sunni rebels and fought in the North.
The suspects were killed in two attacks on Thursday in the province of Abyan, while a third caused no casualties, the ministry said. The statement did not indicate whether the unmanned aircraft, also called drones, belonging to Yemeni and U.S. forces. Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula operating in Yemen, is considered by the United States as the most dangerous arm of the terrorist organization in the world. The Yemeni military waged a major offensive against the group last year, driving the militants out of their hiding in southern Yemen. Since then, the group has launched retaliatory attacks and the U.S. has launched dozens of attacks against suspected members manned aircraft. Safety officials said Friday that two people were killed in recent clashes between rebels and sectarian Sunni ultra-conservative, in the most recent deaths of clashes that have left dozens dead in the last ten days.
