Taipei: at least 25 people were killed and more than 270 were injured due to explosions in underground gas pipes lines.


According to National Fire Agency, gas leaking complaints were received from the affected areas on Thursday evening, when the rescue worker were trying to find the reason of gas leaking, at the same several explosions were occur and more that explosion occurred in this area of 2 to 3 square kilometers.


As a result of explosion, 25 people including 5 firefighters were killed, while 270 other were injured.

According to information, the explosion was so powerful that a huge part of the road was crushed and several nearby building were also damaged. After the explosion, electricity supply has suspended in this area.


After the explosion, rescue teams were reached at the spot and transfer the wounded people to near hospitals. According to the hospital administration, some of the wounded people are in critical condition.


According to the Chang Chia-juch (Economic Minister) “officials are still unable to conclude what caused the explosion, although a preliminary investigation indicated the leak could have occurred in an underground pipeline that transports propene, a highly flammable, nearly odorless petrochemical used for polyesters. Kaohsiung is one of Taiwan’s centers of petrochemical production”.
