Afghan President Hamid Karzai has refused on Monday, accusations that one of his deputies had arranged a rigging against a longtime opponent in Afghanistan’s current presidential election.
The Abdullah Abdullah’s campaign assistants, a ex-foreign minister and one of the candidates for president, released an audio tape, it stated was of Vice President Mohammad Karim Khalili stirring up vote-rigging in favor of Ashraf Ghani, the other candidate.
Afghan president’s spokesman, Aimal Faizi, rejected the audio tape as a fake. Khalili’s and Ghani’s teams also dismissed the audio.
Aimal stated just like this, “This is a serious threat and violation to someone’s security and privacy, and the perpetrators must be brought to justice.”.
The two rounds of voting in the presidential election should have provided the first democratic transition of power in Afghanistan’s history. Instead, they have been tainted by allegations of mass fraud.
Karzai said in interview that the audio recording issue is a actually serious fraud, personal freedom and peace violation.
