New Orleans police stated that a man killed in a drive shooting, 18-year-old woman and injured five other people, in whom three of them were children.
The shooting occurred in the Lower 9th Ward, a neighborhood that was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina and has tried with crime, international news agencies reported.
A woman and two children, aged two and four, were reportedly in critical condition and a 13-year-old girl and a 37-year-old woman were in stable condition.
The slain man appeared to be in his late 20s. The Lower Ninth is a predominantly black neighborhood less than 5 miles (8km) from the bustling tourist district of the French Quarter.
