China has arrested a man in the western Xinjiang region for spreading ‘internet rumors’ about an attack in July in which about 100 people were died, international media reported.
Officials say 59 ‘terrorists’ were killed by security forces in Xinjiang’s Shache county and 37 citizens were gunned down in attacks by wearing a veil militants on July 28.
A 22-year-old was arrested for posting a fake account of the incident on abroad websites, the Xinjiang government stated.
“So-called reports… fabricated horrifying details and deliberately incited ethnic hatred,” They further explained that the rumor, which added graphic describes of intense violence by police, had been dispersed by “hostile foreign forces.”
