The UN-backed tribunal sentenced two top Khmer Rouge leaders life imprisoned in Cambodia for their character in conflict offenses against humanity committed in the 1970s.

The decision against the government’s former 83-year-old head of state Khieu Samphan and 88-year-old chief ideologue Nuon Chea was declared on Thursday. Both have declined their guilt.

They were accused for their character in the forced exodus of millions of people from Cambodia’s housing areas including an execution location in the northwest of the country where more than thousands of people were killed.
