The United States President Barack Obama has nominated three new military commanders, including the top US and NATO commander in Afghanistan.

The current vice chief of the Army, Gen. John Campbell, will oversee the withdrawal of American troops later this year, if he is confirmed by the Senate.

Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel made the declaration of Obama’s choice to put back outgoing commander Gen. Joseph Dunford, who will become the next Marine Corps Commandant.

Obama also nominated naval aviator Adm. Bill Gortney to take over as the head of US Northern Command and the North American Aerospace Defense Command in Colorado Springs, Colo. and Army Lt. Gen. Joseph Votel to head up US Special Operations Command in Tampa, Fla.

Gortney is currently in charge of US Fleet Forces Command in Norfolk, Va., and would replace Army Gen. Charles Jacoby Jr. at NorthCom.
