More than thousand protested on the Afghan president’s palace on Friday, all were in favor of candidate Abdullah Abdullah’s accusations of mass fraud during the presidential election by state officials.

Last week, Abdullah collapsed and the run-off pitting the former Northern Alliance leader against former Finance Minister Ashraf Ghani on June 14 has collapsed into a deadlock.

It restores ethnic stresses in Afghanistan as Abdullah’s base of support is with the Tajiks, the second biggest ethnic group while Ghani is Pashtun, the largest group.

The Ex-World Bank official mentioned journalists at a news conference in Kabul, “One of the reasons, the most significant, is that we convened a meeting of more than 3,000 ulema [(Islamic scholars] … these, after they endorsed us.

Carried out a mosque-to-mosque campaign, issued fatwas and [held] Friday prayers where they asked the women to participate.”
