The European Union leaders have set Monday as the deadline for the release of detainees in east Ukraine and for the terms of a lasting ceasefire.
They said in a statement during a summit in Brussels on Friday that they also expected Ukrainian authorities should be granted control of three main border checkpoints.
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko had offered expanding the current, temporary ceasefire for 72 hours as it expires at 19:00 GMT on Friday.
