The European Union leaders voted 26-2 to nominate Jean-Claude Juncker as president of the bloc’s executive body, the European Commission, at a summit on Friday.

The prime minister as he voiced bitterness over the nomination of Juncker said, “This is a bad day for Europe, of course I’m disappointed.”

He explained the candidate slightingly as “the career insider of Brussels” and criticized other EU national leaders who he said had “taken different views along the way”.

British Prime Minister David Cameron had build up a campaign in defiance of EU rules of agreement to disown Juncker the job and argued that the 59 year old was a federalist committed to making bigger the Union’s powers.
