Costa Rica’s goalkeeper Keylor Navas saves from the Greece forward Theofanis Gekas in the penalty shootout at Arena Pernambuco, Recife, Round of 16 matches. Navas named victory and now Costa Rica tuned to quarterfinal round.


Costa Rica has been created history, has defeated their rival Greece in a penalty shootout on Sunday to reach the World Cup quarterfinals for the first time.


The Costa Rican defender Michael Umana scored the significant penalty as Costa Rica named great win the shootout 5-3 after the game finished by 1-1 following extra time.


34 year old Gekas saw his penalty saved by Costa Rican brave goalkeeper Keylor Navas for the only miss in the shootout.


Costa Rica had brought the lead early in the second half of regulation time through Captain Bryan Ruiz but then had defender Oscar Duarte dispatched in the 66th minute.


Greece made equal in wound time of regulation time when Sokratis Papastathopoulos smashed in a rebound and finally made the team’s numerical advantage pay.
