About 18 people killed as Philippine army soldiers were attacked by separation Muslim insurgents on Monday in two towns in the Maguindanao province, situated in the south of the country.


Seventeen of those died were insurgents and one was a soldier. The clash that resulted wounded three soldiers and five terrorists, Regional military spokesman Col.


Dickson Hermoso told reporters. The militants from the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Movement are said to be behind the attack. The movement detached from the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, as it opposed peace discussions.
