More than dozen of high-ranking police officers were arrested in Turkey on Tuesday, international news reports.

They were charged of involvement in spying and illegal wire-tapping in investigation into corruption in Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s inside circle.

Nearly 76 officers were arrested in 22 provinces nationwide on suspicion of forming a criminal organization and illegally bugging phones, international news agencies reported.

Most of those arrested had reportedly held key positions during last year’s corruption investigation, which led to the resignation of four cabinet ministers and the custody of businessmen near Erdogan.
