Head of the Moscow Metro Ivan Besedin has been sent off because of the deadly accident on July 15, Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin told to news reporters on Tuesday.

Dmitry Pegov, who has been elected new Metro chief, had done work as director of the high-speed service department at Russian Railways (RZD) since February 2010.

“Over the recent years, we have done a great deal of work to modernize the rolling stock, increased wages, while the rate of technical hitches reduced.

But what happened on the Arbatsko-Pokrovskaya line annulled this work,” Sobyanin said, about the incident that killed 23 people and left 160 wounded.
