As Turks get ready to begin to the polls on Sunday in the country’s first direct presidential elections, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan comes out set for a landslide victory.
Earlier chosen by the parliament, a 2010 referendum paved the way for direct elections, including providing a number of 3 million Turks living abroad the right to take part in the voting process.
The 60-year-old Erdogan representing the Justice and Development Party (AK) will be running against scholar 70-year-old Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu and the Kurdish politician 41-year-old Selahattin Demirtas who is the co-chair of the Democratic People’s party (HDP).
