Afghan presidential candidate Abdullah Abdullah’s camp has refused the preliminary results of last month’s run-off election as a ‘coup’ against the people, putting him on a risky clash course with his opponent, Ashraf Ghani.
The international media report says which lies on preliminary results that the Independent Election Commission (IEC) on Monday proclaimed Mr Ghani has named victory of the June 14 second round with 56.44 per cent of the vote.
The count might change when the final official numbers emerge on July 22. Mr Abdullah’s camp took the action angrily, saying the result was unacceptable as it didn’t throw out all the fraudulent votes.
A spokesman for Mr Abdullah’s campaign, Mujib Rahman Rahimi said, “We don’t accept the results which were announced today and we consider this as a coup against people’s votes.”
Candidate Abdullah refusal sets the stage for a likely bloody clash between ethnic groups or even secession of parts of the broken country, which is already deeply divided along tribal lines.
