The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) is killing, abducting and threatening religious and ethnic minorities in and around the northern Iraqi city of Mosul.

Because ISIS threatening, the Christians were running away Iraq’s jihadist-seized city of Mosul en masse on Friday mosques relayed an ultimatum giving them a few hours to go away, the country’s Chaldean patriarch and witnesses said.

Since seizing Mosul on June 10, 2014, the Iraq-Syria extremist group has captured almost 200 Turkmen, Shabaks, and Yazidis, killed nearly 11 of them and warned all Christians to convert to Islam, pay ‘tribute’ money or go away from Mosul by July 19.

A priest and two regional government officials reported to Human Rights Watch that on June 29, the extremist organization kidnapped two priests and three Christian orphans, whom it detained for 15 days.

Meanwhile, the extremist group declared orders barring Yazidi and Christian employees, in addition to ethnic Kurds, from returning to their government jobs in Mosul.

Sako stated, “We were shocked by the distribution of a statement by the Islamic State calling on Christians to convert to Islam, or to pay unspecified tribute, or to leave their city and their homes taking only their clothes and no luggage, and that their homes would then belong to the Islamic State.”
